Project Title:
Wadi Salaam
Subtitle:
A Flagship Smart City for Peace, Innovation, and Cultural Renaissance in the Horn of Africa
Abstract:
Wadi Salaam is a visionary megastructure project and the flagship smart city initiative of the Horn of Africa, launched under the ISAAAC program—Intelligence System for Accessible, Adaptive, Augmented Cities—by Kingdom Investment Corporation Limited (KICL). Designed as one of the most ambitious urban developments in the world, Wadi Salaam will host up to one million residents within a future-proofed architectural framework that redefines the relationship between scale, nature, and technology in the African context.
Strategically located along the Red Sea, Wadi Salaam draws inspiration from pioneering models like NEOM’s The Line, while offering a distinctly Afro-Islamic, climate-resilient, and culturally embedded approach to megastructure design. It envisions a new paradigm of urban form—vertical, ecological, and interconnected—where advanced infrastructure systems, AI-integrated services, and adaptive mobility networks converge with the natural environment, honoring both the coastline and the land’s ancestral logic.
Wadi Salaam is more than a city—it is a continental experiment in “intelligent bigness.” By leveraging cutting-edge technologies from the ISAAAC platform, including digital twin environments, automation, robotics, and renewable energy systems, the city will serve as a testbed for how human settlement can evolve in harmony with natural systems while embracing technological advancement.
At its core, Wadi Salaam is also a symbol of hope, designed not only for efficiency but for dignity, peace, and prosperity. With a development vision that aligns with SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), the city will foster inclusive economies, attract global talent, and offer a model of regional integration through cultural exchange, innovation, and infrastructure diplomacy.
As a megastructure on the frontier of design, development, and imagination, Wadi Salaam stands as Africa’s answer to global urban ambition—a monumental response to ecological urgency, demographic change, and the transformative power of architecture at scale.
